Back in the days vikings could use a marriage between two families as a proof that one would not attack one another and be seen as a true alley. Especially, if one kingdom was bigger than the other this could give the smaller kingdom a certain cerainty that after a common goal has been met that they will not be attacked after words.

However, this marriage could of course be a setup by the upper hand as well.

Also Vikings burried their loved ones without a grave s.t they could dig them up again and touch the bones and gifts they gave to their loved ones as well.
